… glory to the newborn King!
Joy to the world, the Lord has come, let Earth receive her King! It’s the day after Christmas, and songs keep playing in my head (and maybe sung in the shower). Songs that capture the significance of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior, and his birth. The significance of God the Son being sent from the majesty of heaven to take on the frailty of a baby – fully human, yet fully God – on a rescue mission to reconcile God and sinner. There are so many great CHRISTmas songs that celebrate this amazing truth. We should really be singing them all year round.
“Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” is clearly a Christmas carol that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. We all know this song, but what is it really all about? Let’s break down the lyrics and discuss why we should bring this message and the joy it provides every day of the year, everywhere we go, and to everyone we encounter.
The song’s first verse begins with the word “hark,” which means “listen or pay close attention,” so the opening line is a call for people to listen to the angels as they sing about the Savior’s birth. This is fitting, as the rest of the verse describes the sounds of Christmas. The angels are singing, and their voices are full of joy. They are announcing the birth of Christ, and they invite all people to rejoice.
The second verse is a bit more personal, discussing how Christ came to save us from our sin. This is why we celebrate His birth and why the angels sing. They want us to know that Christ is our Savior and our hope.
Lastly, the third verse talks about how Christ came to bring us peace. It talks about how He is the Prince of Peace and how His love can change the world. This is why the angels sing and why we celebrate His birth. Christ came to bring us hope, which is why His birth is so special.
Jesus was the ultimate gift from the Father, sacrificing His Son to live a perfectly righteous life on earth, then die in our place so we can be in a relationship with God and have eternal life. How incredible is this! We should want to sing about the birth of Jesus every day with intense joy.
Let’s rejoice and celebrate the true meaning of Christmas all year round. Like the Angels, spread the joy and good news everywhere you go and to everyone you meet – including your professional relationships!
Hark! Who in your network could use some good news?
