“Any temporal possession can be turned into everlasting wealth. Whatever is given to Christ is immediately touched with immortality.” – Billy Graham
I believe that it is easy for humans to detach the physical world from the spiritual world. I believe that this also happens among Christians. We often forget that we are spiritual beings in a physical body. I think that this paradigm also rings true when we consider “our” money. I put our in quotes because, as discussed previously, the money actually belongs to the Lord, and we are just stewards. Jesus tells us the following:
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:19-21).
There is a promise that we can have treasures in heaven. Do we see our wealth as a means and opportunity to invest in eternity? If someone came to you today and guaranteed a 1,000% return in the future, you would be crazy not to invest. This is what Jesus is telling us, and so much more. We have a guarantee that our investments in the kingdom of God will have an impact into eternity. If we had this thinking regarding our finances, we would be more open-handed and less selfish. Here is a question to ponder: how can you invest in the Kingdom of God?
