Stoking the Fire

By Jeff Brink, January 30, 2024

In-person connectivity with other believers is an important element to thriving as Christians.  The power of this connectivity is on full display on Sundays while gathering as a church body and perhaps sharing fellowship following the service. It provides that indescribable feeling of being connected closely to God through His Word and with His body of believers. In Matthew 18:20, Jesus tells us, “For where two or more are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”

The challenge comes when we scatter into the world, compartmentalize our faith, and take on worldly and secular “norms.” This is why individual and group connectivity with other Christians during the week is so important – whether it be one-on-one over coffee (see Caffeinated Connections), small group gatherings, or Christian networking events.

I find analogies helpful for searing things in my memory bank, like the bonfire analogy told by Jason Dees. The senior pastor at Christ Covenant compares our weekly scattering to a bonfire. When firewood and embers are close together, a bonfire radiates incredible heat and will burn for hours. But once you spread out (or scatter) the burning pieces, the fire quickly goes out. In fact, within minutes, you can actually pick the separated coals with your bare hands. That’s exactly what happens to Christians during the week when we are not in close proximity, urging one another on.

Christian professional networking events are one way to stoke the fire of your career and your faith. Connecting with other believers professionally allows us to fuel the faith of fellow believers with prayer and encouragement, connect with work opportunities, become equipped as Kingdom ambassadors, and grow the Kingdom economy.

In the Atlanta area, there are a growing number of such events, which can now be found on our website www.faithnetconnect.org/events. I strongly suggest participating in some of these opportunities during the week to spur one another along.  “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another” (Proverbs 27:17). The goal of FaithNet is to become a global connecting hub bringing Christians together in the marketplace – with one another, with events, and resources to flourish in a godly manner and expand God’s Kingdom. Initially, we only cover local events in the Atlanta area, but we plan expansion to other major cities in 2024.

Mark your calendar. FaithNet is co-sponsoring a terrific in-person networking event on February 29th (leap-year day) at Christ Covenant ChristianProfessionalNetworking . What a great way to spend your extra evening courtesy of leap-year. The format is open networking, dinner and table discussion, guest speaker, segment on networking / netweaving, and a speed networking session. Always lots of fun and meaningful connections to be made.

Throw another log on the fire and sign up for a networking event today. Together, let’s see how much heat we can radiate for and from God’s Kingdom.
