As followers of Christ, we are called to be servants of God in all areas of our lives, including our professions. God purposefully and providentially places each of us in our spheres of influence for specific reasons, including bringing others together to advance His Kingdom and His plan. What an awesome thought! Servant networking is a powerful way to participate in God’s good plan every day.
Servant networking is essentially networking as an active listener with a servant mindset, then connecting people you have met with one another, weaving your connections together for others’ benefit. Effective servant connectors constantly look for opportunities to selflessly serve others (Philippians 2:4) by introducing and pairing people with matching needs, skills, and opportunities.
At Christ Covenant’s professional networking events, we also refer to this servant-connecting process as netweaving. The idea of netweaving is that whenever meeting others, place their interests first, listen attentively, and pay close attention to who they are, what they do, and what specific needs they may have. Then think about others in your network or whom you have recently met who could benefit from meeting them (or vice versa) and make that connection or introduction. Servant connecting goes beyond people-to-people connecting; it also connects them with helpful resources and organizations. And in some cases, the Gospel.
If you want to develop or hone your netweaving skills, join us for the February 29th CC Professional Networking Event.
Connecting others using a servant’s heart posture reflects your Christ-like character while helping others, and you are serving God and playing a role in His plan for human flourishing and Kingdom advancement. It is easy to do, and you will always feel good about it. Acts of selfless servanthood come with a promise, which Jesus shared after washing his disciples’ feet, “If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them” (John: 13:17).
Only God knows the detail and timing of His plan and our exact role in it. But we do know that our networks (spheres) are purposefully orchestrated and provide constant opportunities to serve and connect others for godly purposes. We all have daily opportunities to make meaningful connections for someone in our network. These small acts can greatly impact someone’s life and God’s Kingdom.
