Representing Christ well in the workplace requires consistency between a person’s secret and public lives. As Jesus taught, what a person does in secret will be rewarded by God the Father (Matthew 6:4).
Five Spiritual Life Priorities:
1. Spiritual Fitness – Rhythms with Accountability.
2. Balance – Plan for personal growth and development.
3. Duplication – Family, Spiritual, Ministry.
4. Personal Ministry – Life on life.
5. Public Ministry – Excellence in your craft.
How do we deal with someone powerless to reciprocate a favor we have given them? Spiritual maturity is demonstrated when we act on behalf of someone who can’t do anything for us. This represents the power of the Holy Spirit’s presence in a person’s life.
Jesus spoke to His disciples about how they should interact with people in their personal ministry. He said, “And whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace [be] to this house.’ “And if a man of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him; but if not, it will return to you” (Luke 10:5-6 NASB20).
The Holy Spirit exists inside of the follower of Christ and works with us (or we with HIm) to accomplish His purposes in our meeting with other people. We bring God into our workplace because He dwells within us. As Paul taught, “Do you not know that you are a temple of God and [that] the Spirit of God dwells in you?” (1 Corinthians 3:16). We are never alone.
The mystery of how the Holy Spirit works through us is a much larger discussion. For now, understand the Holy Spirit operates within us as our helper to impact the life of the person we meet. Jesus set the example and impacted His disciples and the people He encountered life-on-life, one-on-one. They were not merely anonymous recipients of knowledge about God. They interacted with Jesus and expressed their thoughts, dreams, and sometimes misunderstandings to Him. Everyone was changed by their encounter.
As Christ’s ambassadors in our workplaces, we can also have an impact and change lives through what we do with the help of the Holy Spirit. When we keep our secret lives in order as we obediently follow Jesus, our personal ministry will also impact people, life on life.
