Building the Family Business (part 1)

By Jeff Brink, March 26, 2024

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be part of a family business? If you are a Christian, look no further because you already work for the largest family business ever created!

As a follower of Jesus, you belong to God’s kingdom family, and all of God’s children are in His “family business.” Like most businesses, this family business has a purpose: to produce an end-product. The end-product of this family business is the growth of the Kingdom of God.

Over the next few weeks, we will explore how we can effectively help build the kingdom family business. Today, we will lay the series foundation.

Let’s start with some important foundational truths.

1) God owns absolutely everything, including every single company since the beginning of time.

2) God has graciously gifted us all with unique skills and talents, not so we can glorify ourselves, but for His glory.

3) We are simply stewards of God’s gifts (time, talent, and treasure), which have been thoughtfully assigned to us.

4) God providentially placed us in our work roles and spheres of influence to do His work here on earth – helping to run the family business.

Your current assignment in the family business may be a cashier at a fast-food restaurant or you are the CEO of a thriving company. Regardless, you are equally valued in God’s eyes. It’s more about what you do with your role than the actual role itself. Ask yourself how you use God’s gifts, your sphere of influence for kingdom impact, salt and light in the workplace, and an effective kingdom ambassador.

You have been placed where you are by your heavenly Father to advance His heavenly purposes. Every day should be viewed as a family workday, working side-by-side with our brothers and sisters in Christ to continue God’s work on earth and make a kingdom impact.

More to come!
