“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, [this person is] a new creation; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. Now all [these] things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their wrongdoings against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. He made Him who knew no sin [to be] sin in our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Corinthians 5:17-21 NASB20).
Today, Christ is personally present in you. Christ is in you now, empowering you with the mission to tell people how they may be reconciled to God and have His favor restored in their lives. That is why He strategically places you in the mission field that is your workplace, community, and the lives of your children.
The Great Commission is not an interruption to what we do in our lives, it is an integration. “As you go,” you restore men and women to a right relationship with God. You are not counting or holding people’s sins against them. Why? Because God has made it your role to deliver the message for how they may be reconciled to God, how a relationship with Him may be restored, and how they may live in faith.
Therefore, don’t expect an ungodly person or a non-Christian to act like a Christian. Don’t expect non-Christians to believe our Bible. The Bible is the word of God to us, but for them, it might be a myth or irrelevant.
Don’t be offended. Please don’t be upset about it. Don’t look at them like they are a disease that will infect you with sin. Rather, touch the leper and cleanse them with the blood of Jesus in your gospel message.
“A person has joy in an apt answer, And how delightful is a timely word!” (Proverbs 15:23 NASB20).
God wants you to tell people that Jesus loves them, that Jesus has a plan for their lives, that Jesus wants them to come to know Him. Your words need to be seasoned with salt and come from a place of your own intimacy with Christ. When you have spent time in the presence of God, prayed, and sought the Lord, now go in the power of the Spirit into the world with a message of reconciliation. You are a Kingdom ambassador.
