The kingdom ambassador is called to full-time ministry during their business week, and the workplace is the central platform of Jesus’ ministry.
Who are you? This is primarily a question of your identity. A good second question is, Why do you exist? The why question is about purpose.
In his second letter to the church in Corinth, Paul says:
“Therefore, if anyone [is] in Christ, [he is] a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. Now all things [are] of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore [you] on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. For He made Him who knew no sin [to be] sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Corinthians 5:17-21 NKJV)
It is important to know who you are before you can understand why you exist.
Paul said, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation” (17). Your identity is not based on your skin color, race, education, or family of origin. In our modern world, we even hear of people associating their identity with their sexual preference. For the Christ-follower, identity starts with who you are in Christ. Not merely another created being, but a new creation! The old moral condition and the gap between a person and God no longer exists. Our identity, the way God sees us, is this new creation made possible by Jesus Christ. We are free of sin and everything that formerly kept us from a relationship with God.
Our identity is not who the world says we are; it’s how God sees us. How does He see you today?
Here’s the good news for the Christ-follower: God sees you in His son Jesus! That’s amazing! You are complete in Him. You are accepted in Him. You are victorious in Him. You are favored by Him. Anyone who is joined to Christ is a new being. You belong to something, you belong to Christ!
Next week we will dive deeper into the realities of knowing WHO you are will help you better understand WHY you are here
