In the black church, we still celebrate December 31 in church. We call it to watch night service because it was the night before Jan 1st, 1863, when the Emancipation Proclamation came into law. It was a wonderful day to celebrate our freedom.
Jesus arose from the day two thousand years ago, and we have been declared free through his death, burial, resurrection, and ascension! As an ambassador, you and I are commissioned by Jesus to go and announce humanity’s freedom from satanic bondage.
In Texas in 1865, people were still in bondage, just like black people in the South before the Emancipation Proclamation. Someone had to tell them the news of their freedom and enforce the law. You and I have a similar calling. Go and tell, proclaim the gospel to every person.
Men and women are no longer separated from God but are now made righteous and brought into union with God through Jesus. Yet there are people today walking around still with the stain of sin on their lives, they are separated from God.
You and I have been given a word of reconciliation to tell the story. We must look for opportunities for ministry every day in our work; it is our full-time calling.
This ministry has lived out Monday through Friday in the marketplace. This is why you are here!
